Ocean State Job Lot Celebrates Grand Opening of Elkton, MD Store

OSJL repurposes former Big Lots site as part of multi-state expansion

North Kingstown, RI – (June 14, 2025) – Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), the region’s premier discount retail chain with 175 stores across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, celebrated the grand opening of its newest Maryland store today with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 801 E Pulaski Highway in Elkton, MD. The Company also celebrated the opening of its Seaford, DE store this morning.

The 34,000 sq. ft. location is one of 17 former Big Lots properties OSJL has acquired and revitalized this year as part of its continued expansion across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.

The celebration featured remarks from OSJL Store Team Leader Luke Rider, Director of Communications Lynn Hall, and Alicia Calhoun, Executive Director of the Elkton Alliance, Inc. The company was also joined by Commissioner Jean A. Broomell and Commissioner Charles H. “Charlie” Givens Sr. of the Town of Elkton, both of whom participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and offered remarks on behalf of the town.

Following the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed a variety of free activities including glitter tattoos, pictures with Bluey, donuts, juice boxes, and coffee, as well as a live radio broadcast by WXCY-FM (103.7/96.9 Country). Attendees also had the opportunity to enter a raffle to win one of three $150 Ocean State Job Lot shopping sprees.

As part of its “Close to Our Heart” charitable initiative, the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation donated 250 backpacks to the YMCA of Cecil County to support local children and families. Ellen Poe, executive director of the YMCA of Cecil County, accepted the donation on behalf of the organization during the event.
