Ocean State Job Lot Celebrates Grand Opening of Dansville, NY Store
New York location opens in former Big Lots, creating jobs and community impact
Dansville, NY – (May 31, 2025) – Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), the region’s premier discount retail chain, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 31st to celebrate the opening of its newest store at 10 Village Plaza in Dansville, New York, marking the company’s 17th store in the state. The location previously occupied by Big Lots is now home to a fully renovated 33,118 sq. ft. OSJL store.
OSJL executives and local leaders, including Mayor of the Village of Dansville and President of the Dansville Area Chamber of Commerce Barry Haywood and Town of North Dansville Supervisor Gregory Horr gathered to welcome the store to the community, with festivities open to the public.
As part of its “Close to Our Heart” initiative, the OSJL Charitable Foundation donated 250 backpacks to the Dansville Community Center and 250 backpacks to the Dansville YMCA to support youth and families in the region.
In addition to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, customers enjoyed complimentary refreshments, free pictures with Stitch, glitter tattoos, three $150 shopping spree raffle giveaways, a community welcome banner, and music from a local radio station.

The store has added new jobs to the area, with Ocean State Job Lot continuing to grow across New York and beyond in 2025.
