Ocean State Job Lot’s Director of Leasing, David Steinberg, Honored with Distinguished Service Award by International Council of Shopping Centers
ICSC’s 2023 Trustees’ Award Recognizes Volunteers in their Service to the Marketplaces Industry
North Kingstown, RI – May 30, 2023 — Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL), a leading discount closeout retailer headquartered in Rhode Island with stores throughout New England, New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, is pleased to announce that David Steinberg, Director of Leasing, was recognized by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for his outstanding service to the marketplaces industry. Steinberg’s ICSC’s 2023 Trustees’ Award was presented on May 21 during an ICSC volunteer brunch and reception at Wynn Hotel and Resorts Las Vegas.
The Trustees’ Distinguished Service Award is a lifetime achievement awarded by the Board of Trustees of ICSC to volunteers devoted to the industry and going above and beyond.
Steinberg joined ICSC in 1992, and his volunteer work has been vital in helping the association promote marketplaces and spaces where people shop, dine, work, play, and gather as foundational and vital ingredients of communities and economies.

Steinberg’s quarter-century-plus of ICSC committee service has included positions as Connecticut Retail Chair, three years as Connecticut Operations Chair, a term as Rhode Island Next Generation chair, one as New England Next Gen chair, and three years as Eastern Division Retail Chair, all preceding his current five-year role as New England Marketplace Council Director. A highlight of Steinberg’s ICSC service was chairing the New England Idea Exchange event in Boston in 2017.
Steinberg has worked in all aspects of shopping center leasing and development. Prior to joining Ocean State Job Lot in 2011, he worked for 12 years with Konover as Vice President and four years with Herlis Realty as Leasing Director. Steinberg lives in East Greenwich, Rhode Island.
